COGNAC FRAPIN |
| |
Frapin is a rarity in Cognac on several levels. Firstly it is entirely family owned by Geneviéve Frapin and her husband Max Cointreau. Secondly, their estate comprises 300 hectares, all of which is the Grande Champagne district (officially known as Premier Grand Cru du Cognac, but so-called because the soils are identical to the chalky soils of Reims). And finally Frapin produces Cognac in the 'pale and dry' style. |
| |
The access to this superb raw material allows Frapin to produce Cognac of the highest quality. They manage their vineyards in a sustainable way, employing many techniques such as the use of natural predators, flower crops between rows of vines and resting land for seven years. The Cognacs are released at ages far above the minimum required by the appellation. The V.S is released after 6 years (the AC stipulates a minimum of 3 years), while the VSOP comes to market after 10 years (AC minimum 4 years). The youngest wines in the Frapin XO are 35 years old, and 45 years old in the Extra Reserve Patrimoniale. |
| |
The XO Cognacs of Chateau de Fontpinot are a minimum of 20 years old and are different in style from the Frapin Cognacs, showing a more aromatic style. |
